Within the vampire mythology, there are various origin stories. Maybe it’s a virus. Maybe they just always existed or even pre-dated humans. Maybe the origin is less important at the beginning of a series but becomes more so when learning more deeply about our beloved characters.
Sometimes, it’s a desirable turning with a willing participant. Some even beg for it. Other times, the modern-day vamp laments being turned against their will and swears revenge against their maker.
But then what? Will the newly turned try to sire more and make a vampire army? Will he wither away in an attempt to meet true death? What about the one so eager to be undead who then decides immortality is not all it’s cracked up to be? There are many ways this could go. And they’re all juicy. You can really sink your teeth into them. (C’mon, I had to)
Anyway, I was just thinking about vampire stories and more specifically the origin story.
What types of vampire stories do you like? Are you interested in dark romance? What about heavily technical science-fiction? True horror? Blood, gore, and more? Meandering stories that give you rich world-building and character development? Or do you prefer to just cut it and get to the good stuff already?
Chime in in the comments!
To be honest, your book was the first (and only) vampire story I’ve ever read. I was hesitant to read it but discovered that it was a good story. And not too much blood and gore. I had to close my eyes to read that part 🤪. The dark romance, while unfamiliar to the traditional romances I’ve ever read, was interesting. I do gravitate toward mystery-type novels, so this story touched on that aspect enough to keep me interested. I don’t care for horror stories, per se, but I do like a touch of science fiction. I’m waiting, patiently, for your next story. Thanks
